Love this song! I love going back and forth with German and English versions.

I don't really like this version, till seems to hold notes for longer and there's too much fry in the low notes in the verses, but that's just my opinion lol

There is a slight variation in the translation, but it is close enough to get the jist. The lyrics that varies the most is in the chorus. English: Goddamn not an angel when I die. German: God knows I don't want to be an angel. I THINK it is an intentional change to make the lyric more pleasing to the ear when sung in English. The literal German lyrics translation in English is as follows: Only once the clouds have gone to sleep Can you see us in the sky We are afraid and alone Because God knows I don't want to be an angel Obviously, in this recording, the English lyrics are slightly different for clarity of meaning. Only Till Lindemann knows for certain. Engel continues to be my absolute favorite song.

He is wrong.Angels are a separate race from us.We don't become them when we die. He doesn't have to worry about that.The Bible says that we become like angels, but being like something isn't really the same thing. Right now, we are all like a lot of things , but that doesn't mean that we are those things. I'm not trying to be mean, I just don't like people playing with religious concepts. They are just trying to make people mad, and unnecessary because the lead singer has an awesome voice and that is really all he needs.

I cant fluidly speak..but my grandparent allways spoke German to polish ..and growing up when they swore or used profanity or angry tones..it allways sounded better in German or polish..lol..some things convey a good idea but don't sound good to our American hard wired English speaking brain
